HUDSON, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College men's volleyball team took down Bard College in straight sets on Friday evening 25-4, 25-11, 25-10 in conference action. With the victory, the Cardinals improve to 15-4 overall and 4-1 in the UVC, while Raptors fall to 1-11 overall and 0-7 in the conference.
In the first set, Fisher held Bard to only four points, while beginning the match on an eight point scoring run led by
Kevin Cahill at the service line. To finish out the first set Fisher added a 11 point scoring run, this time led by
Avery Terroso at the service line.
The Cardinal offense was unstoppable in the opening set as they totaled 10 kills, zero errors, and a whopping .769 hitting percentage.
Much like the first set, the Fisher offense continued its stride in the second set as the Cardinals finished with 12 kills, only two errors, and a .500 hitting percentage.
Martin Hackford led the way in the second set as the freshman tallied five kills, while Cahill led another 10-point scoring run at the service line in the second set victory.
The third set would follow suit as the Fisher offense finished off the match with 11 kills, one error, a.500 hitting percentage in the third set win.
As a team, the Cardinals totaled 33 kills, only three errors, and an average hitting percentage of .566. Fisher also tallied 15 service aces throughout the match as well as 31 total assists.
Martin Hackford could not be stopped as the Orchard Park native finished with a perfect night with 15 kills, zero errors, a .714 hitting percentage and two service aces. Cahill added six kills and five service aces, while
Eric Bentivenga pitched in five kills and .833 hitting percentage.
Defensively, the Cardinals were led by
Tyler Richards who finished with seven digs and
Max Thurston who tallied three blocks.
Dylan Urbanski and
Quinn Magiera handled the setting duties as they finished with 16 and 11 assists respectively.
Fisher returns to action on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. when it travels to Boston, MA to take on MIT in another UVC matchup.
