SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College women's volleyball team traveled to Union College for the Union Tri-Match on Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals picked up a straight-sets win (25-17, 28-26, 5-19) over Mount Saint Mary College (NY) before falling to the host Dutchwomen, 3-1 (25-17, 26-24, 20-25, 26-24).
Fisher moves to 14-6 on the year. When it defeated the Knights earlier in the day, it was the Cardinals' 11
thstraight victory, tying their longest recent winning streak that happened back in 2009.
FISHER 3, MOUNT SAINT MARY 0
It was a set of runs in the first set. A five-point burst put Fisher up, 12-10. Then, while holding a one-point lead at 18-17, the Cardinals closed out the opening stanza with seven points in a row. Freshman
Lauren Gilbert earned back-to-back kills to earn the set victory.
The Cardinals were in control for most of the second set until the Knights fought their way back to lead, 25-24. Fisher would go onto win four of the next five points to come away with the high-scoring close-set win.
Fisher had to work its way back from down five early in the third set. A 6-1 run would knot it up at 10 a piece. A four-point burst put the Cardinals up 16-12. Then four more points in a row would put them in a driver's seat at 20-15. Junior

th straight time.
Three Cardinals were in double-figures for kills. Freshman
Lindsey DeBonis led the way with 13, while Gilbert and Steigerwald each contributed 12. Hay, who had the night off on Friday against Medaille, got back into rhythm with a game-high 36 assists. Freshman
Alexis Mancha put up a team-high 16 digs.
UNION 3, FISHER 1
The opening frame saw the Cardinals take an early lead at 6-4. They were not able to hold onto though as the Dutchwomen took control and held the advantage. A three-point swing cut into the Union lead late but it would not end up being enough.
The Cardinals held the edge for much of second set. Union came swinging back again to take the lead. Hay set up Steigerwald for kills on two occasions that tied it up at 19-19 and 20-20. A Gilbert kill would make it 24-all but the Dutchwomen would win the following two points to take a two-sets-to-none advantage.
Fisher had to work its way out of an early hole in the third set. Once the Cardinals took the lead at 15-14, they never looked back the rest of the way. DeBonis and fellow freshman
Elly Hepburn provided a block at the net to take the third frame and keep Fisher in the match.
The fourth set was a back-and-forth affair. The Cardinals held a 23-18 edge late, but Union reeled off five-straight points to tie it at 23 a piece. Fisher would win the next point to make it, 24-23 in the visitors' favor. However, the Dutchwomen would win three points in a row to win the match.
Gilbert led the way with career-highs of 18 kills and a .390 hitting percentage. Hay reached the 40-assist plateau for the third time this season with 42 helpers. On the defensive end, DeBonis had a team-high 14 digs.
The Cardinals return home at 6 p.m. on Friday to host Empire 8 foe Houghton College. It will pit the last two remaining teams in the league with undefeated conference records against one another.
