WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – In a battle of two top 25 teams, the St. John Fisher College baseball team came out on the wrong end of a 12-0 loss as the Cardinals, who are ranked No. 22 in the latest D3baseball.com national poll, fell to No. 6 Concordia Chicago University, 12-0, on Monday at Chain of Lakes Park. With the loss, Fisher moved to 1-4 while the Cougars improved to 3-2 overall.
Concordia Chicago got on the board early as the Cougars plated a run in the bottom of the first inning before adding three more runs on two hits in the second.
After retiring the side in order in the top of the third, the Cougars struck again in the home half of the frame with five runs on five more hits to open up a nine-run edge heading to the fourth.
Justin Graham notched the Cardinals' first hit of the game in the top of the fourth, but Fisher was unable to generate any offense as Concordia Chicago turned two to get out of the inning without incident.
The Cougars added another crooked number in the bottom of the fourth with three more runs on the strength of three more hits as Fisher fell in the seven-inning affair.
Freshman
Matthew Raudelunas started for Fisher and took the loss after allowing four runs on just one hit over an inning of work.
DJ Mendenhall gave up three runs on three hits in 1.1 innings before
Ryan Felske was tagged with two runs on three hits.
Jason Wasilnak pitched two-thirds of an inning before being lifted for
Sean Harris who yielded three runs in one inning overall.
Rylan Baker and
Caleb Lee allowed just one hit over two combined innings of work.
Fisher will return to the diamond at 9 a.m. on Tuesday as it takes on St. Joseph's College of Maine in Winter Haven at Chain of Lakes Park.
