PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College women's basketball team surrendered a season-low 39 points as the Cardinals pushing their winning streak to four games after smothering visiting Keuka College, 53-39, on Saturday inside Manning and Napier Varsity Gymnasium on Bobby Wanzer Court. The win moved Fisher to 7-4 on the season while the Wolves fell to 8-2 overall.
With the score tied at 22-22 coming out of the halftime break, Fisher went to work and built a comfortable lead over the first three minutes of the third quarter after stringing together eight unanswered points capped by back-to-back baskets from
Erin Hulbert to hold a 30-22 lead.
As the third period ticked away, Keuka cut the Cardinals' lead to five after scoring five quick points, but
Alex Reigle penetrated and kicked it out to
Olivia Baumann in the corner as the freshman knocked down a 3-pointer to put Fisher back up by eight heading into the final frame.
Over the final 10 minutes, Fisher continued to dominant on both ends of the floor. After a free throw from Keuka made it a 39-30 contest,
Caroline Robertson and
Sydney Masna both converted layups to give the home team a double-digit lead. The Wolves answered with back-to-back buckets of their own, but the momentum shifted suddenly as
Nicole Robinson beat her defender in the paint and nailed the ensuing free throw to complete the and-one. The old-fashioned 3-point play sparked a 9-0 Fisher run over the next three minutes with Masna and
Shiane Irwin both burying 3-pointers to extend Fisher's cushion to 17 points en route to the non-conference win.
Hulbert led the way for Fisher with her second double-double in as many games. The junior guard finished with 11 points, 10 rebounds and six assists in the win while Robertson also contributed 11 points to go along with six boards and a game-high five steals in 37 minutes of action. Robinson added six points and 10 rebounds at the forward position. Masna, a freshman, continued to impress with 11 points and seven rebounds while Reigle chipped in with five rebounds and a pair of steals.
Collectively, Fisher held Keuka to just 14 made field goals (14-for-55/.255) and forced its opponent into 20 turnovers on the day.
The Cardinals will return to Empire 8 action at 8 p.m. on Friday as they welcome Houghton College to campus.
