No. 15 Baseball Keeps Rolling; Sweeps Elmira for 17th Straight Win

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The nationally-ranked St. John Fisher College baseball team combined for 25 runs and 32 hits as the No. 15 Cardinals extended their record winning streak to 17 games on Wednesday with a sweep of the Elmira College Soaring Eagles at Dugan Yard.  With the wins, Fisher improved to 25-6 overall and remained unbeaten in Empire 8 action at 12-0.  Elmira fell to 12-14 and 8-9 in the conference standings.

FISHER 9, ELMIRA 3

After falling behind by a pair of runs heading into the bottom of the first inning, Fisher turned things around with five runs on five hits in the home half of the frame.  Evan Ryan led off with a single to center and scored when Justin Graham doubled him in.  After a walk from Scott Eisenmenger, Nate Roethel and Ryan Prevost followed with RBI singles to give Fisher a 3-2 edge.  Roethel would stake Fisher to its fourth run on the base path after stealing home while Thomas Pasquale drove in the team's fifth run of the inning on an RBI-single up the middle.

The Cardinals plated three more in the second inning with Eisenmenger collecting two RBI with a double down the left field line.  Roethel followed suit with a double of his own to make it an eight-run game heading into the third.

Elmira would get one back in the top of the fourth, but a solo shot from Eisenmenger in the bottom of the inning shifted the momentum back in the home team's favor.

Kyle Chambers started the game and went 3.2 innings before being lifted for Ryan Felske.  Chambers gave up three runs (two earned) on six hits and struck out seven.  Felske, who moved to 1-0 with the victory, pitched 3.1 scoreless innings in all.

FISHER 16, ELMIRA 0

Both teams put up zeroes on the board until the fourth inning when the Cardinals plated three runs including a two-run home run off the bat of Malcolm Kelsey

After a scoreless top of the fourth, Fisher blew the game wide open in the bottom of the inning after sending 15 hitters to the dish en route to 11 runs on 10 hits.  Prevost, Roethel and Graham each had two hits in the frame with Prevost and Roethel combining for three doubles and a triple overall.  In all, seven different players drove in a run with Prevost and Roethel each coming away with two RBI.

In the sixth, Ryan Fahy made it a 15-0 contest after driving in Evan Ryan who had reached on an infield error earlier in the inning.

The Cardinals tacked on one more run in the bottom of the eighth inning as Graham singled through the right side to bring in Victor Konstantinovsky who had led off with a double to right field.

Fisher had 20 hits in the win led by Graham and Prevost who had four hits each.  Graham went 4-for-6 with three RBI and a pair of runs scored while Prevost was 4-for-5 with four RBI and two runs scored.  Kelsey, Konstantinovsky, Roethel, Eisenmenger and Fahy each collected two hits.

Dillan Wilkinson moved to 4-0 on the mound with the win after tossing five scoreless innings with three strikeouts.  Trevor Rumsey, Matt Toohey, Loukas Brigham and Caleb Lee combined to throw four no-hit innings to close out the game.

Fisher will hit the road this weekend as it travels to Hoboken, N.J. for an important three-game series with the Stevens Institute of Technology Ducks.
