BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The nationally-ranked St. John Fisher College baseball team continued to roll as the No. 18 Cardinals won their 11th straight game after scoring four runs in the seventh inning to defeat The College of Brockport, 4-2, in a non-conference bout at the Clark V. Whited Complex. With the win, Fisher, which climbed seven spots in the latest D3baseball.com national poll this week, moved to 19-6 while the Golden Eagles fell to 16-13 on the season.
After a scoreless first inning of play, Fisher found itself in a two-run hole in the second frame after the Golden Eagles scored a pair of runs with a two-out double.
The score would remain 2-0 in Brockport's favor until the top of the seventh when Fisher clubbed three hits and took advantage of a pair of Golden Eagle errors to take the lead. After
Allen Murphy reached on a misplay to lead off the inning,
Malcolm Kelsey came up with a pinch-hit single to put two on with no outs. Both runners moved up on the next play when
Ryan Prevost grounded out before
Thomas Pasquale drove in a run to bring Fisher within one, 2-1. From there,
Jack Trotman drew a pinch-hit walk before
Evan Ryan stepped to the dish and ripped a three-run home run as the Cardinals turned a two-run deficit into a two-run advantage before the Golden Eagles could notch the third out of the inning.
With a two-run edge, Fisher's bullpen took care of the rest as
Dillan Wilkinson,
Kevin Berge and
Kyle Chambers combined to throw four scoreless innings. Wilkinson was credited with his first collegiate win and moved to 1-0 after giving up just two hits in two innings of work. Berge pitched a third of an inning before being lifted by Chambers who nailed down his third save of the season with 1.2 scoreless innings.
Dominick Pisciotto started for the Cardinals but did not factor in the decision after going five innings and allowing two runs on four hits with three strikeouts.
Fisher will jump right back into conference play at 4 p.m. on Wednesday when it travels to Elmira to face the Soaring Eagles.
