Field Hockey Falls To Utica In Empire 8 Conference Semi-Final

WASHINGTON, P.A. – The St. John Fisher College field hockey team fell in the semifinals of the Empire 8 Conference Tournament on Friday to number three seeded Utica College by a score of 2-0. The Cardinals fall to an overall record of 15-4, while the Pioneers improve to 9-9 overall and will play the number one seeded Washington and Jefferson College in Saturday's championship game.

The first half finished at a scoreless tie 0-0, with the Cardinals outshooting the Pioneers 10-3 in the first half. Senior Emily Markarian notched four of her eight total shots in the first 35 minutes.

Utica got off to a quick start in the second half, scoring first at the 40:07 minute mark and then followed up 10 minutes later at the 50:20 mark. The Cardinals also outshot the Pioneers in the second half 13-5, as well taking the penalty corner advantage 10-4.

Goalkeeper Ashley Maynard finished with two saves in the match. Katelyn Slomba notched two shots on goal throughout the game, while Lindsay Scott added one.

At the conclusion of the Championship, both Lauren Fazio and Meagan McDonald were named to the All-Tournament Team.

The Cardinals will find out if they will receive an at large bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament during the NCAA Division III Selection Show, which airs on Sunday after 11:30 p.m.
