PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College men's soccer team scored four goals in its 4-0 rout of the Alfred State College Pioneers in non-conference action. Fisher advances to 6-3-3 overall, while Alfred State falls to 2-7-1 on the year.
The Cardinals took about 20 minutes to get going in the match, but when they did they would not stop. Dallas Kaiser would send a free kick sailing in the 22nd minute, eventually finding the head of Justin Ferron who would net his fifth score of the 2017 season.
Fisher's Justen Polk would check into the game in the 22nd minute of play, by the 30th he would be credited for two goals. The first coming at the 27 minute mark, when Jeff Meyers would flick a ball past the Alfred State defender, where Polk would tap it in just past the Pioneer's goalkeeper.
Three minutes later, Glenn Roschetzky would send in a corner kick, Bryan Rollins would volley the ball to Polk who would then find the back of the net for his second goal of the game, and third of the season.
At the end of the half, Fisher would hold the 5-4 edge over Alfred State in shots. Polk would blast two of those, while Ferron, Jake Gentile and Bryan Rollins tallied one apiece.
Szymon Labecki would preserve the halftime shutout, stopping two Alfred State shot attempts.
Fisher would come out in the second half, putting away a fourth goal and sealing the deal on the non-conference bout. Roschetzky would send another corner kick sailing into the box, finding Gentile who buried the ball in the lower left corner of the net.
Fisher would find a few breakaway attempts in the half, but the Alfred State keeper would tally some big stops to keep Fisher from scoring any further goals.
The Cardinals would finish the game outshooting the Pioneers 14-7, with Gentile firing four of those 14 shots.
Labecki would secure his first win and shutout of the season, totaling three saves over 90 minutes of play on the day.
Fisher returns to Empire 8 Conference action at 4 p.m. on Saturday as the team travels to Houghton to face the Highlanders.
