PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Caroline Robertson matched her career-high with 20 points but it wasn't enough as the St. John Fisher College women's basketball team fell to Ithaca College Thursday evening, 68-46, in an Empire 8 pairing on Bobby Wanzer Court inside Manning and Napier Gymnasium. With the loss, Fisher moved to 4-8 overall and 1-2 in the Empire 8 standings while the Bombers improved to 10-2 and 2-1, respectively.
After one quarter of play, the game remained tied at 10-10 until the Cardinals claimed the lead, 13-12, on a lay-up by
Alyssa Robens. The advantage would be short-lived, however, as the Bombers reeled off seven unanswered points and 17 of the game's next 20 points to build a 13-point lead, 29-16, with 3:17 left in the second stanza.Â
Fisher would trail by as many as 15 in the opening half before a jumper by
Nicole Robinson sent the Cardinals into the locker room down 13, 33-20.
Coming out of intermission, Ithaca scored three quick baskets in the paint to make it a 19-point game, 39-20. From there, the visitors continued to work the ball into the lane and eventually built a 24-point edge before the Cardinals found their groove. Trailing by double-digits, Fisher would shave 10 points off the deficit as Robertson scored nine straight points as part of a 12-2 run, but that was as close as the home team would get as the Bombers earned the 68-46 conference win.
Robertson was efficient from the floor, shooting 8-of-13 overall including 2-for-2 from distance. The junior also added four rebounds.Â
Erin Hulbert finished with 10 points and five boards while Robinson contributed six points and seven rebounds.
As a team, the Cardinals came up with 11 steals and forced the Bombers into 17 turnovers.
Fisher returns to action at 6 p.m. on Tuesday when it travels to Utica to battle the Pioneers in an Empire 8 matchup.
