The St. John Fisher College women's soccer team cruised to a 4-0 win over host Utica College on Saturday in the Empire 8 Conference season-opener for both teams.
With the win, Fisher improves to 1-0 in the Empire 8 and 2-2-1 overall, while Pioneers fall to 0-6, 0-1.
Fisher took a 2-0 lead at the half, as the Cardinals scored two goals in a 67-second span.
In the 18
th minute, junior
Jackie Romano scored her first goal of the season off a pass from senior
Taryn Guinta.  Romano returned the favor moments later, as she headed the ball over a defender to Guinta, who drilled to ball into the right-corner for her team-leading third goal of the season.Â
Nicolette Nigro was also credited with an assist on the play.
Fisher would push its lead to 3-0 early in the second half, as senior
Carly Finn scored her first goal of the season with
Emily Murray assisting on the play.
Sophomore
Nicolle Pierce got in on the action as well, tallying her second career with Guinta notching her second assist of the day. Murray also was credited with an assist on the goal.
Senior goalie
Gabriella Cotugno earned her second shutout on the year, making three saves on the day.
Fisher will return to action next Saturday at Houghton College.
