St. John Fisher College dropped a 9-7 decision in 10 innings to visiting Ithaca College on Sunday afternoon in the final game of the Empire 8 Conference Baseball Championship.
With the loss, Fisher falls to 34-11 overall. The 34 wins are the third-highest win-total in all of Division III baseball and set a new College-record for victories in a season. Fisher will find out on Monday morning if it has received an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III Championship.
Â
After losing its first game in the tournament, Fisher battled back to eliminate Utica and Stevens, and defeated Ithaca yesterday to give both the Cadinals and the Bombers one loss in the double-elimination tournament.  Fisher would come within three out of winning the game in the ninth and had the game-tying run on base in the 10th, but the Bombers would prevail, winning the Empire 8 title (which does not provide an automatic bid to NCAAs) for the second straight year.
Ithaca jumped out to a 3-0 lead going into the bottom of the third inning with Fisher getting on the board on a two-run single from
Cody Wiktorski to score
Malcolm Kelsey and
Victor Konstantinovsky.
Â
The Bombers pushed their lead to 6-2, but the Cardinals would rally to score the game's next five runs.
In the fifth inning,
Evan Ryan doubled down the line in left and scored on a triple from Wiktorski, who scored on an RBI-groundotut from
Jack Trotman.
Fisher tied it in the sixth.
Nate Roethel tripled and scored on a sacrifice fly from
Joe Simmons. Kelsey, the very next batter, drilled a solo home run over the fence in left-center knotting the game at 6s.
Â
The Cardinals manufactured a run in the seventh, primarily on the legs of
Ryan Prevost. After a single from Trotman, Prevost entered as a pinch runner and stole second and third before scoring on a sacrifice fly from
Scott Eisenmenger.  The RBI would be Eisenmenger's 52nd of the year, setting a new single-season record at the College.
Â
Wiktorski finished with two hits and three RBI, while Trotman and Kelsey each finished with two hits. Â
