The nationally-ranked St. John Fisher College women's lacrosse program jumped out to a 6-0 lead and never looked back, as the Cardinals posted a 13-4 win at Rowan University on Saturday. With the win, Fisher, currently ranked No. 18 in the latest national coaches poll, improves to 11-1 on the year, marking the best start to a season in the program's 17-year history. Rowan falls to 6-4 following the loss.
Sophomore
Mackenzie LeVan scored a career-high five goals to lead the way for the Cardinals. Freshman defender
Mary Grace Doyle tallied a career-high seven ground balls, while leading her team with two caused turnovers.
Jordan Johnson finished with four points on one goal and a team-high three assists.
Sierra Badger,
Jamie Wallace and
Cori Holbrook each scored twice, while
Chrissy Cook added one goal and one assists. Badger also paced the Cardinals with a team-best four draw controls.
Fisher took a 1-0 lead just 58 seconds into the game and proceeded to score the next five goals, including three from LeVan.
Holding a 6-1 lead at the half, the Cardinals and Owls exchanged goals, making it 9-3 with 22 minutes left. Fisher pulled away after that, scoring four straight over the next 10 minutes, including two from Wallace.
Goalie
Hayley Peets made three saves in net to earn the win, while
Molly Maguire stopped two shots in the final 12 minutes.
Fisher returns to action at 7 p.m. on Wednesday and will host Nazareth College in a pivotal Empire 8 Conference matchup.
