The St. John Fisher College men's lacrosse team dropped a heart-breaker on Thursday, losing 12-11 to host SUNY Geneseo in a non-conference matchup.
With the loss, Fisher falls to 3-3 on the year, while Geneseo improves to 3-3.
Trailing 5-3 in the closing seconds of the second quarter, senior
Matthew Condon scored with six seconds left to make it one-goal game at the half.
The goal was the first in a 7-0 run over the Cardinals, as Fisher took a 10-5 lead with less than two minutes left in the third quarter.
Kevin O'Donnell helped spark the Fisher-rally, going a perfect 8-for-8 on faceoffs in the third quarter.
While Condon's goal in the closing moments of the second quarter, propelled Fisher in the ensuing period, the Knights seized the momentum with a goal with 15 seconds left in the third.
The Geneseo goal started a 7-0 run for the hosts, who tied the game up with 6:44 left, capitalizing on a two-man advantage.  Just over one minute later, Geneseo took the lead for good.
After scoring with 33 seconds left to take a two-goal edge, Fisher still battled.Â
Gary Bova scored an unassisted goal with 15.5 seconds left to make it a one-goal game. Fisher won the ensuing draw, both a shot from
Andrew Rosso, who finished three goals and three assists, was blocked as the final horn sounded.
Fisher took the early 1-0 lead less than two minutes into the game with Rosso scoring off a pass from Bova.
The Knights however scored three straight goals to take the lead for good.  Fisher's
Tim Wagner made at a one-goal game at 3-2 with 2:56 left in the opening period, but the Knights answered again to take a 4-2 lead after one quarter.
Drew Brown scored off a nice pace from Bova to make it 4-3 game midway through the second quarter.
Wagner finished the game with three goals, while Condon and Bova each tallied three points with one goal and two assists.
Dante Giordano and
Nick Papayanakos also scored.
O'Donnell won 16-of-27 faceoffs and scooped up a team-high 10 ground balls.Â
Ricky Barton caused three turnovers, while totaling six ground balls.Â
Tanner Swan finished with six saves in goal
Fisher will return to action at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Hartwick College.
