The St. John Fisher College softball team split its double header this morning, first with a win against Johnson and Wales University 1-0, before losing 8-4 to the University of Mount Union later this morning.
Fisher 1, Johnson & Wales 0 (7 innings)Jennifer Knaak scored the lone run of the contest to give the win to Fisher in the first game of the day.
After Knaak's run, Fisher would not score again in the contest.
Pitcher
Lindsey Thayer struck out 19 of 23 batters faced, and Johnson & Wales would not earn a hit until the bottom of the fouth inning, as she limited the Wildcats to just two hits in seven innings.
Knaak,
Sarah Kubik, and
Karlie Neale all earned two hits, as Neale went 2-for-3 at the plate.
Fisher 4, Mount Union 8 (5 innings)The Cardinals found themselves in a six-run deficit after the first inning of play, a lead that they could not counter, giving Fisher its first loss of the season against Mount Union.
After Mount Union's six runs in the first inning, they would score again in the fourth on two back-to-back doubles.
In the fourth inning,
Sarah Kubik sent one deep over the fence for a solo home run, giving Fisher its first break of the game.
With the score at 8-1, Neale singled down the left field line, sending Lauren Ownes home. Shortly after,
Sam Schermerhorn hit a sacrifice fly out to center field, scoring Kubik.
In the last scoring play for the Cardinals, Kubik again found success at the plate with a single through the left side, scoring
Julia Sortisio.
Fisher faces off again on Thursday against Augustana College and Neumann University at Legends Way Ballfields in Clermont, FL.
