Men’s Basketball Comes Up Short in E8 Title Game

Top-seeded St. John Fisher College dropped a 93-91 decision to No. 3 Hartwick College on Saturday in the title game of the 2016 Empire 8 Conference Men's Basketball Championship.
 
With the loss, Fisher falls to 21-6 overall. The Cardinals, currently ranked No. 4 in the NCAA Division III East Region, will find out on Monday if it has received one of 19 at-large bids to the NCAA Division III Championship.

Senior Tyler Hart scored a career-high 35 points, as the Cardinals rallied from 26 points down in the first half, and eventually took a five-point lead, only to see Hartwick regained the advantage in the final four minutes.
 
Fisher scored on the game's opening possession and trailed 7-6 two minutes into the game.The Cardinals however would go cold after that.
 
Hartwick went on a 28-3 run over the next nine minutes with the Cardinals shooting 0-for-13 from the floor during that span.
 
The Hawks would lead by as many as 26 at 35-9 with just over nine minutes left in the half. Fisher would respond however, as the Cardinals made 10-of-13 from the floor over the final nine minutes with back-to-back 3-pointers from Hart in the final minute of the half, cutting the deficit down to 13 at 53-40.
 
Fisher scored the first seven points of the second half with Alex Sausville's 3-pointer pulling the Cardinals to within seven points at 53-46 with 16 minutes left.
 
The Cardinals whittled away at the lead, tying the game at 61-61 on a 3-pointer from Tyler Hart with just under 10 minutes to go.
 
Fisher then took a 72-67 lead after three 3-pointers from Hart, Daniel Morales and Sausville with seven minutes left, but Hartwick hung tough.
 
Hartwick went on a 14-5 run over a four-minute span late in the game to take an 87-81 lead with 44 seconds left. Fisher continued to score on the offensive end, but Hartwick went 6-for-6 from the foul line over the final 20 seconds to seal the win.
 
Ryan finished the game with 16 points, while English added 14 points.
