The St. John Fisher College men's basketball program lost at the buzzer on Friday in the championship game of the Woodcliff Hotel and Spa Tournament, as a tip-in off a missed 3-pointer lifted Penn State-Behrend to a 72-71 win over the host Cardinals.
It is just the second time since 2006 (a span of 22 games) that the Cardinals have lost a game in their holiday tournament.  With the win, the Lions improve to 9-2, while Fisher falls to 5-4 on the year.
Trailing 35-32 at the half, Fisher played from behind for nearly the entire second half. The Cardinals trailed by as many as seven points, but tied the game up with just under three minutes left on back-to-back 3-pointers from freshman
Sammy Robinson, who finished with a career-high 14 points.
Fisher took a 70-68 lead on a layup from
Michael D'Amico with just over minute left in the game and the shot-clock nearly expired.  The Lions tied it up on the ensuing possession, while D'Amico gave the Cardinals a 71-70 lead with 8.6 left after converting a free throw.
On the game's final possession, Penn State-Behrend drove the length of the floor and shot a 3-pointer from the left corner with two seconds left. The shot clanged off the back of the iron, but was tipped in as the final horn sounded.
Robinson led Fisher in scoring, shooting 4-of-5 from 3-point range, while
Keegan Ryan added 13 points. Â
Tyler English added 11 points and two blocks, while D'Amico finished with nine points and a team-high six assists. Â
Sophomore
Ryan Henderson also scored nine points and was 2-of-2 from beyond the arc.  Â
Jake Haight led Fisher with six rebounds.
Fisher returns to action next week and will open up Empire 8 Conference action on Friday at Houghton College.
