The St. John Fisher College baseball program scored six of the game's final seven runs and rallied for a 8-6 win over host Rochester Institute of Technology on Monday. With the win, Fisher improves to 21-17 (15-3 in its last 18), while the Tigers falls to 21-13.
After scoring two runs in the bottom of the first, RIT scored the next five runs to take a 5-2 lead. Fisher tied it up in the top of the fifth, but the Tigers answered again, regaining the lead.
Fisher, however, took the lead for good in the top of the eighth. Trailing 6-5,
Malcolm Kelsey reached on an error and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from
Matthew Cahill. After back-to-back singles from
Nate Roethel and
Frank Carnevale leaded the bases, senior
Calvin Woolhiser singled to tie the game at 7s. Junior
Mike Roman then hit a sacrifice fly to score the eventual game-winning run.
The Cardinals added a run in the ninth.
Cody Wiktorski smacked his third double of the day and his fourth hit of the contest and scored on a double from Kelsey.
Ryan Felske earned the win for Fisher, marking his first collegiate victory, while
Ryan Smith pitched a scoreless eighth and ninth inning to earn his second save of the year.
Shane Barley went 3-for-5 at the plate with a double and two runs scored, while
Scott Eisenmenger added two hits and two RBI.
Fisher returns to action on Tuesday at College at Brockport. The Cardinals will also play at SUNY Cortland, the nation's No. 1 ranked team, at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
