The St. John Fisher College football program dropped a 30-7 decision to host Buffalo State College on Saturday.
With the loss, Fisher falls to 1-3 overall and 1-2 in the Empire 8 Conference, while Bengals improve to 2-2, 1-2.
The game got off to inauspicious start with the stadium losing all power and Fisher's
Derek Boland fumbling on its third play from scrimmage. The Bengals capitalized, driving 45 yards on 11 plays and scoring on a 16-yard touchdown pass.
Fisher's second possession also ended in a turnover with quarterback
Danny Catan's interception being returned 55 yards to the Fisher 9. Buffalo State's Marc Montana kicked a 30-yard field goal four plays later.
The Bengals pushed their lead to 16-0 early in the second half, scoring on a 37-yard touchdown run.
Late in the second quarter, Buffalo State scored on a 33-yard pass on fourth-and-nine to put the Bengals up 23-0 at the half.
Buffalo State pushed its lead to 30-0 on the opening possession of the third quarter, driving 75 yards on 13 plays.
It would remain 30-0 until late in the fourth quarter. The Cardinals drove 75 yards on its final possession with
Nathan Nigolian scoring on a 17-yard pass from
Matt Naton with 47 seconds remaining.
Taylor Byrne converted on the extra point.
Nigolian finished the game with seven catches for 95 yards, while Naton was 11-for-23 for 120 yards.
Defensively,
David Carroll led Fisher with 10 tackles, while
Brandon Miller was in on nine stops and made one sack.
Alec Mortillaro broke up three passes.
Fisher returns to action at 1 p.m. on Saturday at SUNY Morrisville.
