The St. John Fisher College women's basketball squad held the lead for the first 37 minutes of the contest but could not close the deal as host Nazareth College mounted a come-from-behind 59-55 victory on Friday night.

With the loss, Fisher breaks its four-game winning streak and falls to 13-5 overall and 6-3 in Empire 8 play, while Nazareth improves to 10-6, 5-2.

Trailing 31-23 at the half, Nazareth managed to crawl back into the game to even the score at 50 apiece with 4:22 remaining. The Golden Flyers took their first lead of the game, 54-52, under the three-minute mark.

Mary Kate Cusack responded with a 3-pointer of her own to put Fisher back on top 55-54 on the very next possession.Â

After trading misses, Sam Sorge converted a layup with 1:38 remaining to give the Golden Flyers the lead for good.

Fisher started quickly making four of its first six field goals to jump out to a 13-2 advantage three minutes into the contest. Â
Portia Velasco and
Sydney Bloomstein drilled 3-pointers for Fisher on the stretch.

The Cardinals built their largest lead of the half 22-6 following two free throws from Cusack at the 8:30 mark.Â

Nazareth chipped into the lead, getting as close as five points late in the half.Â

After shooting 34 percent in the first half Fisher shot just 24 percent in the second stanza. The Cardinals registered a season-high 11 blocks, including career-highs from Cusack (4) and Bloomstein (3).

Bloomstein paced the way for Fisher with 13 points and seven boards. Cusack also scored in double-figures with 12 points and a team-high five assists. Â
Nicole Robinson scored a career-high seven points.

Fisher returns to action at 2 p.m. tomorrow when the Cardinals will host Utica College.
