Women's Lax Season Ends on Last-Second Goal

The St. John Fisher College women’s lacrosse team lost to Drew University 12-11 in the first round of the NCAA Division III Championship on Wednesday.  With the loss, Fisher finishes its season with a 14-6 overall record, the most successful season in the program’s eight-year history.
 
Drew’s Courtney Cunningham scored the game-winning goal with 10 seconds left for the host Rangers (16-3).   Cunningham had a part in eight of Drew’s 12 goals, finishing with five goals and three assists.
 
Fisher rallied from a four-goal deficit late in the game, scoring four goals in a 4:40 span.  Back-to-back goal from freshman Lauren Glavin tied the game with 2:12 left, before Cunningham’s last-second heroics.     
 
Fisher jumped to an early 2-1 lead on back-to-back goals from Glavin, who was named as the Empire 8 Conference’s Rookie of the Year today. Glavin’s second goal less than four minutes into the contest, marked her 43rd of the season, setting a new Fisher record for goals in a campaign.
 
Drew regained the lead at 3-2 before Fisher’s Theresa Nobilski knotted the game at 3-3 with 19:26 left.
The Rangers, however, took command with a key run late in the first half, scoring five goals in an eight-minute span.
 
Fisher’s Laurie Quackenbush made it 8-4 with her 41st goal with 58 seconds left in the half.
 
Quackenbush finished the game with two goals and one assist, while Katie Glavin tallied one goal and three assists.
Theresa Nobilski finished with one goal and two assists, while Haley Koperski, Trish Scudder and Ashley Fenyn each registered a goal.
