Men's Lax Wins Over Caz

Jason Brannigan finished with a goal and an assist in Fisher's win over Cazenovia.
The St. John Fisher College men's lacrosse team tied the College record for wins in a season, picking up its ninth victory of the year in a 21-1 win over visiting Cazenovia College on Wednesday.  With the win, Fisher improves to 9-3 on the year.  Last spring, Fisher enjoyed the program's first winning-season and finished with a 9-8 overall record.
 
Fisher scored its first goal of the game with 8:34 left in the first quarter and scored three more goals over the next 1:25 to take command.
 
Matt Hargather (Fairport/Fairport) led the Cardinals with four goals and set a new College-record for points in a season with 50 (37 goals-13 assists), breaking the old mark of 48, which he set last spring.
 
Mike Cortina (Binghamton/Binghamton) and Chris Schmidt (West Genesee/Camillus) each tallied three goals and one assist, while Dave Malone (Penfield/Penfield) and Scott Bowen (Binghamton/Binghamton) each tallied five points.  Malone totaled two goals and three assists, while Bowen scored a goal and dished out a career-high four assists.
 
Jeff Price (Honeoye Falls-Lima/Lima) finished with two goals and one assist, while Jason Brannigan (East Syracuse Minoa/Minoa) and Zack Zazzara (Fayettville-Manlius/Syracuse) each had one goal and one assist.
 
Michael-Paul Salomon (West Genesee/Camillus), Matt Kaiser (Waterloo/Waterloo), Dennis Bell (Penfield/Rochester) and Jason Cirulli (Webster Schroeder/Webster) also each scored a goal, while Kevin Lux (Fairport/Fairport), Ryan Kavanaugh (West Genesee/Syracuse) and Jake Conway (Auburn/Auburn) each registered an assist.
 
Dave Wood (Vestal/Vestal) won 11 face-offs and finished with a team-high eight ground balls.  Jon Cortina (Binghamton/Binghamton) played the first half in goal and made three saves, while James Glowina (St. Joseph’s/Grand Island) stopped four shots over the final 30 minutes.
 
Fisher will return to action at 4p.m. on Saturday at Utica College.
