St. John Fisher University Athletics

Ella Eckert (East Amherst/Clarence) of the St. John Fisher College women's basketball team nearly averaged a double-double as the Cardinals went 2-0 on the week with road wins at Elmira and Utica.

In two starts, Eckert averaged 13 points and seven rebounds on 9-of-14 (.643) shooting from the floor overall. Against the Soaring Eagles, the freshman posted a career-high 14 points and six boards before adding 12 points and eight rebounds in a win over the Pioneers on Friday.

Eckert is now averaging 8.5 points per game this season to go along with 6.3 rebounds, while shooting a combined .513 from the field. 

Fisher will be back in action at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday when it hosts Nazareth College in the annual Battle of the Beaks inside Manning and Napier Varsity Gymnasium on Bobby Wanzer Court.
