St. John Fisher College’s Claire Walsh of the women’s basketball team has been selected as the College’s Female Athlete of Week for the week ending February 21st, 2016.
In a 2-0 week for the Cardinals, Walsh shot 54.5% from the floor, including 44.4% from 3-point range, while averaging 9.0 points and 2.0 assists. Her best game of the week came on Saturday, as the Cardinals came through with a 75-72 win over visiting Stevens Institute of Technology. Playing in her final home game, the senior nearly matched her season high, scoring 13 points, while shooting 5-of-7 from the floor, including 3-of-5 from 3-point range.
For the season, Walsh has played in all 25 games, while making three starts. She is tied for second on the team in 3-pointers made with 25 and is averaging 4.0 points and 2.4 rebounds.
Fisher (22-3) will return to action at 8 p.m. on Friday in the semifinals of the Empire 8 Conference Championship. The Cardinals are the No. 2 seed and will play No. 3 Ithaca College at top-seeded Stevens Institute of Technology. If Fisher wins, it will advance to Saturday’s championship game at 4 p.m. to face either Stevens or Nazareth College.
Fisher defeated Ithaca 86-84 in overtime last year to win the Empire 8 title.
