St. John Fisher College’s Tyler English of the men’s basketball team has been selected as the College’s Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending February 21st, 2016.
Fisher secured the Empire 8 Conference regular season title after two wins this week at home against Hartwick College on Friday, and Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday. English averaged 18.0 points and 5.0 rebounds on the weekend.
On Friday, English led the team scoring a career-high 22 points, while grabbing seven boards. Early in the first half the sophomore added eight-straight points to the Cardinals 17-point run which put Fisher up for good.
The following day, English would go on to score the game-winning basket in the game against Stevens. His layup with 2.8 seconds left would be the difference of the game as the Cardinals sealed a 68-66 win over the Ducks, taking the regular season title.
With both wins, Fisher (20-5) claimed the No. 1 seed for the Empire 8 Championship and will host the four-team tournament next weekend. The Cardinals will face Stevens again in the championship tournament at 6 p.m. on Friday.
