St. John Fisher College’s Tyler Hart of the men’s basketball team has been selected as the College’s Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending February 7th, 2016.
Hart led the Cardinals to three victories last week against Utica College, Ithaca College, Nazareth College this week, as Fisher improved to 15-5 overall, and 9-2 in the Empire 8.
The senior averaged an impressive 19.0 points and 4.7 assists per game, while shooting 59.4% (19-of-32) from the floor, including 11-of-18 (61.1%) from 3-point range. He was also a perfect 8-for-8 from the foul line.
Hart tallied 19 points, five assists and four rebounds, while shooting 6-of-8 from the field with five 3-pointers in Monday’s win over Utica. On Thursday at Ithaca, Hart again made five 3-pointers and finished with 22 points, four assists and two steals.
Hart’s lowest point output of the week (16) came on Saturday, but he hit two of the biggest buckets of the season. With the Cardinals down three in the closing moments of regulation, he made a traditional three-point-play to force overtime. In the extra period, he scored on a fade-away jumper with 30 seconds left to put the Cardinals up 84-80.
For the season, Hart is averaging 15.6 points and leads the Empire 8 in free throw and 3-point shooting percentage.
The Cardinals return to action at 6 p.m. on Tuesday when they take on Utica College on the road.
