St. John Fisher College’s Emily Piacentini (East Irondequoit/Rochester) of the women’s basketball team has been named as the College’s Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending December 7.
Piacentini, a transfer from Roberts Wesleyan College, recorded 27 points over the three Wendy’s College Classic games.
The sophomore tallied a career-high 17 points against third-seeded SUNY Geneseo on Saturday to propel Fisher to a third-place finish. Fifteen of her 17 points came from behind the arc, where she shot 5-for-7.
In the Wendy’s opener against William Smith College on Tuesday, Piacentini also recorded career-high numbers in rebounds (6) and assists (4). She dished out another four assists in the Cardinals’ loss to University of Rochester on Thursday.
The Cardinals’ Portia Velasco led the tournament in points (62) and steals (14) for the second consecutive year.
Fisher owns a 5-2 overall record heading into Empire 8 Conference play. First, though, the Cardinals face host SUNY Fredonia at 6 p.m. Sunday for non-conference action.
