Tony Fusco (Shenendehowa/Clifton Park) of the nationally-ranked football team has been selected as the College’s Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending September 21, 2014.
The freshman running back recorded a game-high 187 yards (8.9 yards per carry average) on just 21 carries and scored one touchdown in each half, as the Cardinals defeated The College at Brockport 36-20 in Courage Bowl X on Saturday.
Fusco scored his first touchdown from a yard out with 22 seconds remaining in the half after senior linebacker Mike Donitzen picked off Brockport quarterback Chase Venuto, giving Fisher a 23-0 lead.
The Golden Eagles’ opened the third quarter with their first touchdown of the game, but Fusco ended the opponent’s momentum. On just the second play from scrimmage, Fusco took a handoff to the right side, broke through several tackles and outran the defense, giving Fisher a 30-7 lead. The 50-yard touchdown run was his second touchdown of the game.
Fisher is now a perfect 10-for-10 in Courage Bowl contests and improves to 2-0 on the year and 1-0 in Empire 8 Conference play.
Fisher continues its season at 1 p.m. Saturday, taking on host Frostburg State University
