Ryan Kramer (Oneida/Oneida) of the nationally-ranked St. John Fisher College football team has been selected as the College’s Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending October 6, 2013.
Kramer was a key contributor on special teams and offense, tallying 293 all-purpose yards in a 38-35 victory over Frostburg State in Fisher’s Empire 8 Conference opener.
On two separate occasions, Kramer helped set up critical touchdown scoring drives through the kick return game. In the first quarter, he recorded a 47-yard kick return to the Frostburg 29 yard line. Six plays later the Cardinals tied the game at seven a piece. Then, with Fisher trailing 35-31 in the fourth quarter, Kramer took another kickoff return into Frostburg territory after a 39-yard return. The ensuing drive ended with another Cardinals touchdown and a 38-35 lead that would hold to be the final score.
In addition to settting a Fisher record with 187 yards off of kick returns, the senior running back finished as the team’s leading receiver on the day with 67 yards on six receptions while also tallying 41 yards rushing on nine attempts.
Kramer now has a team-leading 741 all-purpose yards on the season including 341 yards in kick returns and 256 yards receiving.
The 20th ranked Cardinals improve to 4-0 overall and 1-0 in Empire 8 play with the win and will play at 2 p.m. Saturday against host Hartwick.
