Ryan Ballard (Dundee/Dundee) of the nationally-ranked St. John Fisher College football team has been selected as the College’s Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending September 29, 2013.

Ballard was a key figure down the stretch for the Cardinals defense, helping to secure a 33-25 win over SUNY Cortland on Homecoming Weekend.

In the fourth quarter, Ballard had a fumble recovery off a Mason Judd (Palmyra-Macedon/Macedon) quarterback strip which led to the eventual game-winning touchdown run by Cody Miller (Spencerport/Spencerport).  Ballard ranks 8th nationally with two fumble recoveries on the season.

On the Red Dragons ensuing possession, Ballard made an interception in the endzone, returning it 29 yards to kill the Cortland drive.

Ballard finished the day with 6 tackles, .5 tackle for loss, one fumble recovery, and one interception.

The 19th ranked Cardinals improve to 3-0 with the win and will open up Empire 8 play this weekend at 2 p.m. hosting Frostburg State University.
