St. John Fisher College’s Krista Robarge (Saratoga Springs/Greenfield Center) of the softball team has been named as the College’s Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending April 28, 2013.

In a 4-0 week for the Cardinals, Robarge was 7-for-12 (.583) at the plate, with two doubles and a home run. She drove in four runs in the four games and scored once.

The Cardinals first game was against D’Youville College on Friday, a game in which Robarge went 2-for-3 with an RBI. The senior was the only Fisher player to have a multiple hit game in the 2-1 victory over the Spartans.

Fisher’s nightcap with D’Youville went a little differently, as the bats awoke for the Cardinals. Several Cardinals had multiple hits in the contest, with Robarge picking up where she left off, going 2-for-4 while driving in three and scoring another. Robarge’s homer came in the fifth inning, as she led off with a solo shot, starting a Cardinals’ four-run inning.

On Sunday, Fisher has another doubleheader, this time with St. Lawrence University. The first game was a pitcher’s duel, as the Cardinals outlasted St. Lawrence, scoring a run in the eighth off a Kayla Goodberlet double to score Jess Smyrski to break the 0-0 tie. Although Robarge went 0-for-2 in the game, she managed to work the only walk of the day for Fisher, against a pitcher who struck out 13 Cardinals.

Again, the second game was kinder to the Cardinals, as they cruised to a 7-2 victory. Robarge bounced right back in the nightcap, leading Fisher with a 3-for-3 outing, including a double.

Fisher returns to action at 10 a.m. on Friday as it takes No. 2 Elmira College in the first round of the Empire 8 Championship The Cardinals enter the Championship as the three-seed, while Utica is the one-seed and Alfred University rounds out the field, earning the fourth and final spot.
