St. John Fisher College’s Chris Blyth (Pittsford Mendon/Pittsford) of the men’s golf team has been named as the College’s Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending March 31, 2013.
Blyth won medalist at the McDaniel Spring Invitational, a two-day tournament held over the Easter weekend. His outing, combined with the consistent play of other Fisher golfers, also captured the team a first place finish out of 13 teams at the invitational.
The Cardinals shot 303 in the first round and completed the tournament with a 305 on Sunday for a cumulative score of 608 (+20) to beat the rest of the field by eight strokes or more.
Blyth shot a 75 in the first round before shaving a stroke off his score in the final round for a two-day total of 149 (+5). This gave the Pittsford native a two-stroke win over three other competitors in the field, including teammate Thad Wier (151, +7).
Blyth led a team that is currently ranked No. 18 in the latest coaches poll and a squad that will travel to Hershey, PA this weekend to compete in The Hershey Cup.
