St. John Fisher College’s Melissa Leonhard of the nationally-ranked women’s lacrosse team has been named as the College’s Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending March 3, 2013.
Leonhard led the No.16 Cardinals to a 13-9 win at William Smith College on Friday. The senior All-American tallied five points on four goals and one assist, including three goals in the second half.
The Herons moved to within a goal at 7-6 early in the second half, but the Cardinals responded, scoring six of the game’s next seven goals to pull away.
Leonhard, who ranks as Fisher’s all-time leader in draw controls with 193, won 12 draws in the game, two shy of the Fisher single-game record.
Fisher (1-0) will return to action with two games out in California this week. The Cardinals will play Occidental College at 10 p.m. (EST) on Wednesday and nationally-ranked University of Redlands at 10 p.m. (EST) on Friday.
