St. John Fisher College’s Kyle Koehler (Pulaski/Pulaski), a freshman on the men’s track and field team, has been named the College’s Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending January 27, 2013.
Koehler and the track and field squad competed in the Empire 8 Conference Indoor Championship on Saturday at Ithaca College. The Cardinals had a very strong showing in the meet, with Koehler being a major part of the outing. He set a new Fisher record with a distance of 14.09 meters in the shot put during the preliminaries and eventually won the competition with a throw measuring 13.95 meters. The next closest competitor to Koehler in the preliminaries was over two meters shorter on distance, while he threw .73 meters further than anyone in the men’s shot put finals.
Teammate Eric Riley (Oneida/Wampsville) was named the Most Outstanding Field Athlete of the Meet, winning the long jump and high jump, while placing third in the triple jump. Chris Wehner (Cooperstown/Hartwick) also performed well, qualifying for ECACs with his 8.55 seconds time in the 60-meter hurdles for a second place finish.
Koehler and men’s track and field will return to action on Saturday when they participate at Brockport Invitational.
