St. John Fisher University Athletics

St. John Fisher College’s Joanna Vassiliou (Webster Schroeder/Webster) of the women’s track and field team has been named as the College’s Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending January 27, 2013.

On Saturday the Cardinals traveled to Ithaca College to take part in the Empire 8 Indoor Track and Field Championship. At that meet, Vassiliou set a Fisher record in the women’s weight throw with a throw of 14.30 meters.  The performance sealed a second place finish in the field event by a margin of .53 meters.  With the distance, the Webster native qualifies to participate in the ECAC Championship, which will be held on March 1st at the Armory Track and Field Center in New York City.

As a team, Fisher finished in fifth place at the Championships.

Both the men’s and women’s track and field teams will return to action on Saturday at the Brockport Invitational.
