St. John Fisher College’s Camaryn Buckner (Honeoye Falls-Lima/Honeoye Falls) of the women’s basketball team has been named as the College’s Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending January 6, 2013.
In a 0-2 week for Fisher, Buckner compiled 32 points and also recorded her fifth double-double of the season in Saturday’s 48-43 overtime loss to Ithaca College. It was the fourth-straight overtime game for the Cardinals, as the team fell the day before 73-69 to Utica College after extra time.
Against the Pioneers, Buckner netted 17 points and six rebounds to go along with a team-high four steals. Fisher held a two-point lead late in that game, but Utica hit a shot with five seconds left to send the contest to overtime, before taking the four-point win.
Less than 24 hours later, the Cardinals were in the bonus period again after teammate Mary Kate Cusack (Shenendehowa/Clifton Park) sunk a three-pointer with 25 seconds remaining to force overtime. The Cardinals, however, were not able to beat the host Bombers in that time. In the game, Buckner posted a game-high 15 points and 13 rebounds for the 18th double-double of her collegiate career.
Buckner and the Cardinals will hit the road this weekend as they travel for another weekend of Empire 8 games. On Friday the team will face Hartwick College at 6 p.m., followed by a 2 p.m. contest at Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday.
