St. John Fisher College’s Danielle Leone (Manchester/Manchester, CT), a junior on the softball team, has been named the College’s Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending April 29, 2012.
On Sunday, Leone improved to 16-3 on the season with another shutout victory in the circle. The Cardinals hosted St. Lawrence University for an afternoon doubleheader, and Leone led Fisher to its 28th victory of the season with a 4-0 decision.
Leone pitched a complete game, throwing seven scoreless innings while striking out three batters in the contest. The pitcher only walked two batters and scattered three harmless hits. The win was Leone’s eighth shutout of the season, as she has put up stellar numbers all year long.
Currently, Leone ranks atop the best in the nation as her earned run average ranks her second in all of Division III softball. Her 16 wins this season also tie her for sixth all-time in the Fisher history books, as she is just five wins away from tying the single-season record.
Fisher will conclude its regular season at 3 p.m. on Monday when it hosts the Keuka College Storm. The Cardinals will then head to Ithaca College over the weekend to take part in the Empire 8 Conference Championship when they face Stevens Institute of Technology at 10 a.m. on Friday.
