St. John Fisher College’s Jason Beaumont (Honeoye Falls-Lima/Mendon), a senior pitcher on the baseball team, has been named the College’s Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending April 22, 2012.
In a 4-0 week for the Cardinals, Beaumont won the second game against Ithaca College in the weekend series.
The senior threw a complete-game, two-hit shutout against the Bombers, as the Cardinals went on to win 4-0 on Sunday afternoon at Dugan Yard. Beaumont moved to 5-3 on the year with the win, striking out seven Ithaca batters in the process.
The Mendon native had to get used to run support early on Sunday, something he has not been accustomed to this season. Fisher scored all of its four runs in the first inning, allowing Beaumont to dominate with a comfortable lead the entire game. In two of his three losses, Beaumont has only given up two earned runs in each, including a three-hit loss against Stevens last weekend.
Beaumont has allowed just 40 hits in over 50 innings thrown and has an ERA of 3.20. He has a second-best 59 strikeouts for the Cardinals and has thrown the second most amount of innings, just three innings behind team leader Justin D’Amato (Canandaigua Academy/Canandaigua).
