St. John Fisher College’s Jill Zerrillo (Paul V. Moore/Brewerton) of the women’s lacrosse team has been named as the College’s Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending March 18, 2012.
In two games this week, Zerrillo totaled five points on four goals and an assist. On Tuesday the sophomore scored two goals against Buffalo State, including the Cardinals final of the contest, in which Fisher looked to rally from a six-goal deficit. Unfortunately, the rally did not happen as Fisher fell by just one goal at 13-12 to the Bengals. Zerrillo also recorded the Cardinals only assist in the contest.
On Saturday, the Cardinals hosted and fell to the No. 10 Hamilton Continentals in Fisher’s home opener of the 2012 season. In the 14-9 decision, Zerrillo scored another two goals, with one on a free position and another coming off an assist from Melissa Leonhard.
Just four games into the year, Zerrillo has already surpassed the goal production of her rookie year with a total of seven scored in 2012. In her freshman season, the Brewerton native recorded six goals in 18 appearances.
Fisher will return to action at 4 p.m. on Friday when it travels to SUNY Oneonta to face the Red Dragons.
