St. John Fisher College’s Meghan Burns (Bethlehem/Delmar), a freshman on the softball team, has been named the College’s Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending March 11, 2012.
In a 5-1 week for the Cardinals, Burns hit .545 (6-for-11) with an on-base percentage of .583 and a slugging percentage of 1.091. Burns was 2-for-2 in three-of-the-six games Fisher played in the week down in Tucson, AZ. The freshman also hit two home runs in the six games, including an inside-the-park home run against Medaille College in the last game of the team’s trip.
Burns scored seven times while plating another five Cardinals’ players, including three RBI against Pitt-Bradford. She scored twice in the same game while crossing home five times in two games against Medaille. The Delmar native also collected three sacrifices on the week.
Fisher played 10 games down in Arizona for the Tucson Invitational, holding a 7-3 mark upon its return to New York, with all three losses coming to nationally ranked Coe College. Burns and the Cardinals will return to action at 3 p.m. on March 26th for a doubleheader against familiar foe Medaille in Buffalo.
