St. John Fisher College’s Brenden Moore (Camden/Jamesville) of the football team has been named the College’s Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending November 27, 2011.
Moore helped lead the Cardinals defensively as they earned a 27-14 second-round victory over Delaware Valley College in the NCAA Division III Football Championship. The senior linebacker recorded a team high 11 tackles on the day with 1.5 of them going for a loss. He also came up with a key interception at the end of the second quarter that prevented the Delaware Valley offense from scoring right before halftime, protecting a 17-14 Fisher lead. Finally, Moore helped the Cardinals close out the game with 3:24 left in the fourth quarter when he tipped a pass that led to an interception by teammate Travis Tones.
On the season, Moore is second on the team in total tackles (81), while his eight tackles for a loss are tied for third most. He also has recorded two interceptions.
Fisher, who is now 10-2 on the season, will move on to play at 12 p.m. (CST) against the University of St. Thomas (12-0) in Minnesota on Saturday in the regional finals of the NCAA Division III Football Championship. This is the Cardinals third trip to the Elite 8, all which have occured in the last six years.
