St. John Fisher College’s Kyle Metcalfe (Fairport/Fairport) of the men’s soccer team has been named the College’s Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending September 25, 2011.
Metcalfe was also recognized as the Goalie of the Week by the Empire 8 Conference.
In a 1-0 week for the Cardinals, Metcalfe recorded his third shutout of the season in a 1-0 victory on Saturday at Growney Stadium against Utica College. The Pioneers outshot Fisher 18-14 in the game, proving the Fairport native crucial as he recorded 12 saves to preserve the Homecoming-Weekend win.
The Cardinals are 3-5 on the season, showing that the team goes as Metcalfe goes, as he has a shutout in all three wins. With the win over Utica, Fisher is at .500 (1-1) in the Empire 8 Conference.
Statistically, the sophomore owns second place in nearly every category the conference tracks. The goalkeeper ranks second for save percentage (.837), saves (41), saves per game (5.12) and shutouts (3).
Fisher will return to action on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. when it travels to the University of Rochester to take on the Yellowjackets.
