St. John Fisher College’s Tyler McArdell (C.W. Baker/Baldwinsville) of the men’s golf team has been named the College’s Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending April 17, 2011. The junior golfer was also honored as the Empire 8 Conference’s Men’s Golf Player of the Year.
McArdell earned the Player of the Year honor after medaling at the 2010-11 Empire 8 Golf Championship this past weekend. The Baldwinsville native posted the best third- (76) and fourth-round (75) scores to shoot a four-round total of 306, five strokes ahead of the runners-up.
The final two rounds were played at the Woodstone Country Club in Danielsville, Pa. after the opening two rounds were conducted at Yahnundasis Golf Club in September.
Fisher, who earned first place as a team in the Championship, winning its eighth Conference title since 2000, carded a 311 in each of the final rounds to defeat the closest competitor, Moravian, by 39 strokes for a four-day total of 1239.
This marks the second straight week that McArdell earned the Conference’s Player of the Week honor. The junior also medaled at the Edward Jones Shootout in Apollo, Pa. last weekend, leading Fisher to the win.
This weekend’s first place win marks McArdell’s third consecutive, and fifth of his career.
