St. John Fisher College’s
Sarah Stefanon (Perry/Perry) of the softball team has been named the College’s Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending April 10, 2011. The sophomore was also named as the Empire 8 Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week.
In five pitching appearances, Stefanon allowed just one earned run over 26.2 innings (0.26 ERA), while striking out 24 batters. She allowed 13 hits (11 singles and two doubles), and posted a 4-0 record, including three shutouts.
On Wednesday, the sophomore fanned five and gave up three hits in an 18-0 five-inning win over SUNY Oswego. On Thursday, Stefanon allowed three hits and struck out four in a complete-game, 5-0 win over the College at Brockport.
Stefanon appeared in relief in Saturday’s 4-3 loss to Stevens Institute of Technology in game one and retired both batters she faced. In the second game vs. Stevens, she struck out a season-high nine batters and scattered four hits, while allowing just one earned run in a 5-2 win.
The right-hander finished the week off with another three-hitter and six strikeouts in a 4-0 win over Elmira College on Sunday.
For the season, Stefanon has a 6-1 overall record, including five shutouts. She also leads her team with a 1.76 ERA, while ranking second on the team with 47 strikeouts.
Fisher (18-6 overall, 4-2 Empire 8) returns to action as it hosts Pitt-Bradford in a doubleheader slated for a 3 p.m. start tomorrow afternoon.
