St. John Fisher College’s Justin D’Amato (Canandaigua Academy/Canandaigua) of the baseball team has been named the College’s Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending April 10, 2011. The sophomore was also named as the Empire 8 Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week.

D’Amato tossed the first no-hitter by a Fisher pitcher in four years on Saturday, as the freshman struck out five and walked just one batter in an 11-0 win over Utica College. The last no-hitter came back on April 9, 2007 by Ryan Hanson in a 3-0 win over Keuka College – four years ago to the day.

For the season, the lefty has a 6-1 overall record with 40 strikeouts in 37 innings pitched and a 2.68 ERA.

Over his last 18 innings, D’Amato hasn’t allowed a single run (earned or unearned), while striking out 21 batters. He’s also allowed just three hits and three walks during that time.

Fisher (16-6 overall, 6-2 Empire 8) will return to action at 4 p.m. on Thursday and will host Medaille College.
