St. John Fisher College’s Daniel Parshall (East Rochester/East Rochester) of the men’s tennis team has been named the College’s Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending April 3, 2011. The sophomore was also named as the Empire 8 Conference’s Player of the Week.
In a 1-1 week for the Cardinals, Parshall went undefeated in singles play. In a 7-2 loss to Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday, the sophomore earned one of Fisher’s points in a 6-3, 6-3 win at fifth singles.
In continued conference play on Sunday, Parshall pushed Fisher to a 5-4 barn-burning win over visiting Elmira College, earning two of Fisher’s five points. In doubles action, the East Rochester native paired with teammate Chris Maley to earn an 8-2 win at second doubles, before going on to battle through a three-set, four-hour victory to win the match for the Cardinals, defeating Elmira’s Steffan Waters in a 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (7-3) decision at fifth singles.
In the Cardinals’ past three contests, Parshall went a perfect 3-for-3 in singles matches. For the season, the sophomore has collected four singles wins on the season in eight matches played, while pairing up to win three doubles matches.
The Cardinals return to action on Tuesday as they travel across town to face conference foe Rochester Institute of Technology at 4 p.m. on Tuesday.
