Steve Karnyski (Depew/Lancaster) of the St. John Fisher College baseball team has been selected as the Empire 8 Conference Player of the Week and the College’s Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending March 13, 2011.
Karnyski batted .700 in Fisher’s two wins on Saturday. He also scored four runs, stole three bases and drove in three runs, without committing an error in the field.
In Saturday’s 14-4 win over SUNY Cobleskill at Diamond National, in Flemington, N.J., the first baseman went 4-for-5 with two runs and two RBI.
The junior collected three hits in Saturday’s 9-1 win over Baptist Bible College. Karnyski homered, doubled, swiped two bags and scored two runs, while recording 12 putouts in the field.
For the season, Karnyski leads Fisher with 15 base hits and is batting .375.
Fisher (5-4) returns to action this weekend with a three-game series at Muhlenberg College.
