St. John Fisher College’s Erich Rassow (Orchard Park/Orchard Park) of the men’s lacrosse team has been named as the College’s Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending March 6, 2011.
In a 2-0 week for the Cardinals, Rassow dominated the faceoff X, winning 40-of-52 faceoffs (76.9%), while scooping up 21 ground balls.
In Tuesday’s 18-12 win over host Randolph-Macon College, the senior tied the Fisher single-game record by winning 24-of-29 faceoffs. He also totaled 13 ground balls and two assists in the win.
On Thursday, Rassow went 16-for-23 at the X, while recording eight ground balls in Fisher’s 15-6 win over previously-undefeated Adrian College.
Rassow, who ranks second nationally in faceoff percentage this season, also ranks second in Division III in ground balls per game.
The Cardinals (2-0), ranked 21st in the latest USILA pool, will host SUNY Oswego at 4 p.m. on Tuesday at Growney Stadium.
