St. John Fisher College’s
Jessica D’Angelo (Falconer/Jamestown) of the softball team has been named as the College’s Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending March 6, 2011. She has also been named as the Empire 8 Conference Player of the Week for the week ending March 13, 2011.
In a 5-3 week for the Cardinals at the Tucson Invitational,
D’Angelo made four starts at third base with a .889 fielding percentage, and batted .571, good for second on the team.
In a 16-5 win over Sul Ross State (TX) on Monday,
D’Angelo tallied her first collegiate hit, ripping a home run out of the park and tallying three RBI in the fifth inning to push the Cardinals to a 13-run lead over the Lady Lobos.
In a loss to NAIA school William Penn on Tuesday, the freshman went 2-for-3 from the plate with a team-best two doubles and scoring two of the team’s three runs in the loss.
D’Angelo went 3-for-4 from the plate with one double and one RBI in an 8-4 win over SUNY Canton on Wednesday, before batting .500 with one RBI and two runs in a 12-10 comeback win against Wartburg College in Fisher’s final game of the week on Thursday.
For the season, the Jamestown native is batting .556 and is tied with a team-best four doubles, while recording the team’s only home run and seven RBI. In four games at the hot corner,
D’Angelo has collected a .900 fielding percentage.
The Cardinals, who wrapped up the Tucson Invitational with a 7-3 record overall, return to action on Monday, March 28 as they host Medaille College in a doubleheader at the Fisher softball complex.
