St. John Fisher College’s Kelly Jones (Lancaster/Lancaster) of the softball team has been named as the College’s Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending February 27, 2011.

The Cardinals kicked off the 2011 season on Sunday with two wins over Milwaukee School of Engineering. In the two wins, Jones went 4-for-6 from the plate with one double and three RBI.

In game one, a 7-4 win, Jones went 2-for-3 from the plate, recording an RBI in the third inning to put Fisher up 6-0.

In game two, the junior went 2-for-3 from the plate again, this time recording two RBI. In the top of the first, Jones singled through the left side to bring in a run, then scored herself. The Lancaster native then doubled down the left field line to bring in the final run of the 18-2 win.

The junior, who started both games at shortstop, also recorded six put outs with a .923 fielding percentage.

The Cardinals return to action as they face Sul Ross State University of Texas and Capital University of Ohio in day two of play at the Tucson Invitational on Monday.
