PITTSFORD, N.Y., January 17, 2011 – Colleen Maloney (Liverpool/Liverpool) of the St. John Fisher College women’s basketball team has been selected as the College’s Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending January 16, 2011.

In a 1-2 week for Fisher (6-9 overall, 3-3 Empire 8), Maloney averaged 18.7 points, 1.7 steals and 1.0 blocks, while shooting 51.1% (23-for-45) from the floor.

Maloney started the week off with 20 points in Fisher’s 51-45 loss to No. 5 University of Rochester on Tuesday night.

On Friday, the senior guard/forward totaled 12 points in a 63-45 loss at Stevens Institute of Technology.

Maloney’s best game of the week came in her final game, a 67-66 win at Hartwick College, on Saturday.  She led the Cardinals with 24 points on 10-of-17 shooting from the floor.  Her two 3-pointers, both of which came during an 8-0 run in the final few minutes, gave Fisher the lead with under three minutes left.

For the season, Maloney leads Fisher in scoring with 19.3 points per game and leads the Empire 8 Conference with 43 3-pointers.  She ranks second at Fisher in career 3-pointers with 152 and with 1,157 points, she needs five more to crack to College’s top 10 list.

Fisher will return to action at 6 p.m. on Tuesday and will host East Avenue-rival Nazareth College.
